Glutathione - the Master Antioxidant
By LisaM | December 30, 2008
Approximately two and a half years ago, I had never heard of ‘glutathione’ and, for sure, I didn’t know what it was. Having some education under my belt now, I have come to realize its importance in our daily nutritional regime. I want to share a blog from a physician who explains its validity in relativcly simple terms. Dr. Maxfield explains:
Glutathione (GSH) is a tripeptide (or “tri-protein”). It contains an unusual peptide linkage between the amine group of cysteine and the carboxyl group of the glutamate side chain. Glutathione, an antioxidant, protects cells from toxins such as free radicals.
Simply put, glutathione (GSH) is the body’s master antioxidant. It is a small protein produced naturally in our cells when certain required elements are present. It functions both as an antioxidant and an antitoxin and is a major defense system against illness and aging. Our glutathione level actually indicates our state of health and can predict longevity. Although there are more than 60,000 published papers on the beneficial effects of glutathione replacement, it is still largely ignored by mainstream medicine. In the near future the importance of glutathione will be widely recognized because it has the ability to boost the immune system and fight off the damage of free radicals on the cells.
Modern research has shown that individuals who have low levels of glutathione are susceptible to chronic illness. Decreased levels of glutathione can be brought about by continual stress upon the immune system. As we now know, a lowered immune system can bring about illness and disease. This is a ferocious cycle. Autism is an example of a condition that is always associated with a lowered immune system. While you need glutathione for a productive immune system, a weakened immune system hampers the production of glutathione. That is what’s called a double-edged sword.

It’s Time for Network Marketing
By LisaM | December 24, 2008
I recently purchased perhaps the best book I’ve ever read on the profession of Network Marketing. The title is It’s Time for Network Marketing edited by John Milton Fogg. If you’ve never met or heard of Herr Fogg, he offers a comprehensive and compassionate perspective on a much maligned business model. He and several others in the industry — Tim Sales, Richard Brooke, Robert G. Allen, Bob Burg, and Tom Schreiter among others — have come together to hail “the most remarkable form of free enterprise to get the respect and recognition it deserves.”
It’s the only real, level, commercial playing field open to anybody regardless of age, sex, race, education or past success. Network marketing is a business structure designed to build successful organizations through cooperation, not company politics. It is a great choice for today’s laid off and unemployed workers should they decide they are ready for a change AND willing to do something about it. Finally, it works just like a social network: word of mouth marketing that uses the beauty of leveraged, residual income to reach incredible personal and financial gains for anyone who wants it.
Driven by the human spirit, it exposes who we really are by mirroring our character - our weaknesses as well as our strengths. Stay the course long enough and you can discover the magic for yourself!

Aging with Vitality
By LisaM | December 10, 2008
Is creating energy in your body something that you’re interested in? It seems like we’re all looking for the extra zing. I know I am. I want to share with you about a little talked about nutrient called Alpha lipoic acid.
It’s a natural, vitamin-like substance that is essential to help our bodies create energy in our cells. You can get small amounts of ALA from organ meats and green leafy vegetables, but not enough to do much good. Without it, your body would struggle to obtain energy from the food you eat, and you could not stay alive.
Alpha Lipoic acid is a truly effective antioxidant, says Berkeley researcher Lester Packer, Ph. D. He describes it as a truly versatile substance that recycles other nutrients such a coenzyme Q-10, and vitamins C and E. Additionally, ALA chelates heavy metals like mercury and lead, and helps people with diabetes I by increasing the sensitivity of their cells to insulin. Finally, it treats various types of liver damage, including that caused by cirrhosis, hepatitis C, and poisonous mushrooms.
But, perhaps, the most important attribute that I can attest to is the energy I have each and every day to perform at my optimum best. If eating pounds of green leafy veggies everyday doesn’t sound palatable, pro-activate yourself with an ALA supplement and you can truly Age with Vitality!

It’s all behind you now: Colon Healthy
By LisaM | September 7, 2008
Today’s blog is prompted by a local columnist’s comment on the preventive benefits of a screening colonoscopy. (Yes, “screening”, not “screaming”). I applaud his attention to the very important health issue but, as a wellness advocate, I want to take it one step further.
“Alternative and conventional doctors are often like Democrats and Republicans,” says Bill Gottlieb in Alternative Cures, “they can’t seem to agree on anything. But whether they use chemotherapy or vitamin C, doctors who treat cancer patients seldom disagree about the best treament for almost all of the nearly 96,000 Americans who are diagnosed each year with cancer of the colon.”
Gottlieb reports, “It is universally accepted that early surgery is the most effective treatment for most cases.” Note here that he says treatment which refers to an after-the-fact response to this disease. What’s more important, in my opinion, is to “change the environment of the colon itself” and prevent such an occurence in the first place.
Most cases of colon cancer are rooted in lifestyle choices. If you love your plumbing (and I’ll bet you do), here are some simple and effective points to take into consideration:
1) Eat a diet high in fiber to keep things on the move. Beans, whole grains, fruits and vegetables are you best friends for regularity.
2) Drink plenty of water. You’re drinking enough if you have to urinate every 2 to 3 hours, says Gottlieb.
3) Avoid red meat and especially the barbecued kind.
4) Keep alcohol intake to an absolute minimum.
5) Take a good vitamin and mineral therapy every day. Remember, you only have one colon and you want to keep it well!

My Bimmer’s back!
By LisaM | August 27, 2008

Yes, it’s finally here. After 106 days without it, my beautiful BMW has been repaired and is back with a vengeance. Last May, on a sunny California Friday, a half-blind 17-year-old T-boned my car and sent me a’swirling. I am fortunate to have been in such a sturdy car because I walked away from the accident. But my car needed three and a half months of rehabilitation and a lot of TLC! Is it any wonder why there are so many BMW’s on the road? Why, it’s ’cause of all the crazy drivers!

Pennies in a bundle?
By LisaM | August 12, 2008
Is the Real Estate Market narrowing your choices? Have you resigned to pinching pennies for the rest of your life? Or will you be a person of action?
We’re not in a recession, the economy’s in flux. When industries and technologies wane, die out, or simply implode, it’s a new opportunity to create, innovate and grow. Businesses now operate globally via the internet. “While this has resulted in much greater total economic output,” says Paul Zane Pilzer, “it has made employment less stable for individuals, who must now be ready to retrain themselves on short notice.”
Enter Entrepreneuralism
Did you know that over 2/3 of Americans are overweight? Stress, lack of exercise, lack of fruits and vegetables and more all take their toll on our weight and on our health.
Scientists are tackling one of the most profound issues of life, solving one of the few remaining mysteries of human existence - age and vitality - on which technology has yet to make its mark. The sickness business is reactive. Despite its enormous size, people become customers only when they are stricken by and react to a specific condition or ailment. No one really wants to be a customer.*
Enter Wellness
Wellness is thinking ahead; it’s proactive. People choose to become customers - they want to feel healthier, to reduce the effects of aging, and to avoid the waiting rooms and halls of the sickly.
Don’t you want to be part of this early-stage approach to health?
Imagine what will happen as more people understand the potential that wellness adds to the quality and longevity of their lives! And imagine having that vehicle already set in place?
Entrepreneurialism + Wellness = Financial and Physical Prosperity
If you’re about making 2008 a life-changing year, I want to speak to you Today. Fill in your name, email and phone number and let’s talk. You will be incredibly amazed!

The Visalus Mission
By LisaM | July 23, 2008
“When we’re talking about life, every one of us has our own bank of time, and every day we have a mandatory withdrawal. Everyday! And you can’t make deposits. Every day we take out 24 hours don’t we? Everyday we take out 1444 minutes or 86,400 and it’s gone. We can’t do much today to change the past. And we can’t buy back the past. What can we buy back? Are you ready to live? Are you ready to embody life?”

The Basketball and the Hose
By LisaM | July 16, 2008
Timing and Trends: during this incredibly challenging economy, I believe it’s most important to look at the big picture. Don’t get lost in the minutae of this bank that, and that housing market went bust. Can’t control it, so let it go. One of the things I learned a long time ago is that a connection to most anything in the health-related market will always keep you busy… and working. And where should we focus now that the Baby Boomers are close to retirement? Watch this video and see if you have an answer… Read the rest of this entry »
